How to Prepare Your Body for Pregnancy

Posted on: August 12, 2019

The importance of caring for your body before going into labor cannot be overstated. The preparation you take during your pregnancy not only contributes to the well-being of both yourself and the fetus, but it also has the potential to help labor commence more smoothly. In the following post, we will discuss a few of the best ways to start preparing for your baby.

First off, it is important to schedule an appointment with a doctor (with both you and your significant other) so that you and your healthcare provider are both aware of your medical histories, which can certainly have an effect on your pregnancy. Secondly, you should stop using birth control immediately, as it can have a negative effect on the development of the fetus. It is also important to monitor your diet more closely to lower your exposure to toxins. This can be done by eating healthy snacks such as nuts and fruits and staying diligent about checking for undercooked meat. Along with a healthy diet, be sure to take up an exercise routine of at least 30 minutes a day for about 4-5 days a week. Using multivitamins can also aid your body in nourishing the fetus. Among vitamins, one of the best supplements to take is folic acid, as it can help prevent neural tube defects. Making sure you get plenty of sleep should also be at the top of your priority list, along with finding a healthy way to manage the stress that comes with expecting a baby. Many of my patients belong to online support groups or Facebook groups with fellow pregnant women who are going through the same thing you are.
